Summertime is the best time to wear lighter weight fabrics, color, and best of all PRINTS. There have been so many different print trends seen around the world lately that it’s hard to keep up. From gingham to polka dots, prints are a trend that continuously evolve throughout the year and specifically by season.
When you peruse Instagram or Lookbook, your eye is instantly drawn to prints (and color), so you can imagine what happens when someone wears an amazing print in vibrant color. Here are the top 10 prints we saw featured on lookbook this week. From Russia to Japan, there’s something for everyone.

America’s Obsession with Subscription Boxes
You can say that subscription boxes are the millennial’s approach to the cosmetic industry’s long time “bonus gift” that each brand would run as a promotion within department stores. Many of us have long forgotten about “bonus time” at the cosmetic counter these days.
With more of a surprise of what you are going to receive in these mystery boxes, subscription box giants such as Birch Box, curate beauty samples, as customers eagerly await for what some refer to as “Christmas morning”. With the success and craze that came with Birch Box, many others have started to follow their business model. Now you can find a subscription box from anything from bra’s to socks.
As someone who has always been a fan of clothing subscription boxes like LeTote or Rent the Runway Unlimited, I’m usually more drawn to subscription boxes that I can wear and return. These type of subscription models have established themselves as the “Netflix of fashion”. Although I enjoy the occasional surprise mystery box, I usually appreciate items much more that I’ve selected myself. I would highly recommend this type of option especially if you’ve got a shopping addiction.
It’s no wonder that there is now a jewelry only company called Rocksbox the allows a customer to choose three pieces of designer jewelry worth up to $200 to wear, return and even buy at a discount. For $19 a month you get 3 pieces of endless rotation of amazing jewelry from designers like Gorjana or House of Harlow (a few of my faves). It’s such a great way at such a minimal cost to keep your outfits fresh and updated.
For next few months I have actually teamed up with this awesome company that allows my readers to receive a FREE month subscription! All you need to do is enter the code globalgarbsxoxo at checkout. Plus shipping is free! Check out their website here and sign up to become a member. I just received my first box and I’m absolutely loving what I got!
THE TOP GLOBAL FASHION CAPITALS
After living in NYC for the past ten years, one thing I’ve realized is that I should have moved here at an earlier age. If I could go back in time, my one regret would probably be not being able to go to college in this amazing city. Having majored in fashion merchandising, I would have loved to go to FIT or the Fashion Institute of Technology. In New York City, this school is pretty iconic in terms of credibility, programs, and networking, essentially the epitome of a fashion school.
One of the most amazing things that FIT does that is free to the public is to curate these amazing exhibitions every year. This year’s exhibit is absolutely relevant to the Global Garbs audience. Featuring historical and current top designers from all around the world, the exhibit displays the TOP GLOBAL FASHION CAPITALS. You can check out the full exhibition online, but here are a few highlights:

LONDON
In the 60’s and 70’s London was all about youth culture and vibrant designs from designers such as Mary Quant. Today the city is seen as a fashion capital due to amazing talent such as Alexander McQueen and John Galliano. The British Fashion Council also played large part in ensuring that London maintains it’s avant-garde talent from an international standpoint. It’s 2015 International Fashion Showcase featured more than 400 designers from over 50 countries.

MILAN
Known for luxury ready to wear, and iconic brand such as Prada or Gucci have some amazing pieces on display as well. In 1975 the National Chamber of Italian Fashion began to hold Fashion week in this manufacturing hub. Florence and Rome have also been fashion cities but what started as a rivalry between the two cities ended up benefiting Milan.
NEW YORK
In the beginning, New York City would copy Paris’ top fashion designers. But during the Nazi occupation of Paris, they were forced to design independently. This is when New York’s garment district began to become seen as more creative. The CFDA was then founded in 1962 to “help strengthen the influence and success of American designers in a global economy”. In the next decade New York began to challenge Paris as the most prominent fashion city.
Now known for functional sportswear, and the originators of major fashion editorials such as Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, and Women’s Wear Daily, New York is still on top in terms of begin recognized as the number one Fashion Capital.

PARIS
As the originators linked back to fashion since the 18th century, Paris has had a very evolved fashion system. Led by Englishman Charles Frederick Worth. Designers such as Chanel, and Christian Dior helped to establish business in Paris to be seen as as the couture capital. During the 60’s and 70’s, ready to wear became much more important and innovative. Today Paris remains the world’s leading fashion capital, supporting world-renowned brands and fostering new design talent.

Bohemian around the world
The Bohemian trend has been around for a while now and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. The “hippy”‘look has evolved from the stereotypical free-spirited peasant blouse to a modernized version ranging from a darker color palate to more tailored jumpsuits.
The recent reemergence of the 70’s trend definitely plays a role in the continuing boho chic look, but girls all around the world have adapted their own style based on what works best for their lifestyle and body type.
Considering that these silhouette are extremely easy to pull off no matter your size, this trend is slowly becoming something more than a trend but almost an entire genre in itself. Just like “grunge” or “street” looks have been classified as an overall way of dressing rather than a trend, bohemian chic has been in the fashion eye for more than a decade.
It makes us wonder whether this type of style will remain a core way of dressing for yet another decade. Lookbook certainnately feels this way. Having featured bohemian as one of the top styles to choose from in their filtering system, it just goes to show that so many women around the world classify their style as bohemian that lookbook has devoted an entire category to this specific genre.
What do you guys think? Is this trend going to be around for the long term or is it on its way out?
Here are the top ten looks seen around the globe over the weekend of some girls who have either modernized or embraced the original boho chic look.
GERMANY: STRYLE TZ from Hamburg wearing the perfect swimsuit cover up that’s just the right amount of bohemian yet casual.

UNITED STATES: Stardust Bohemian, a 23 year old from Hawaii but residing in Seattle is both a fashion designer of bohemian style as well as a style blogger. With the only blogger with “bohemian” in her actual website, this girl is probably the expert in anything boho.

Top street style looks from the Paris Couture shows
One of the best parts of the Paris couture shows or any fashion week for that matter is the street style going on outside the tents. From celebrities, editors, buyers and fashion bloggers, the troves of women in particular who attend these shows are definitely there to see and be seen.
Some of the outfits chosen can be a little over the top, but the looks below represent the top twenty street style looks that are definitely inspirational yet wearable. Although we enjoy from time to time seeing the outrageous show stopper looks, we usually are most inspired by the women who just seem to have a certain je ne sais quoi, without wearing something too crazy.
From Olivia Palermo’s chic ensemble to Nicole Warne’s sexy yet chic look, the women did not disappoint the fashion photographers this season. We suppose it doesn’t hurt that it’s the spring shows and it’s obviously much easier to dress appropriately as opposed to being bundled up in a coat.

TOP 5 SUMMER TRENDS FROM VOGUE AROUND THE WORLD
Everyone knows that Vogue is basically the “fashion bible”. Published in over 18 countries, the globally read magazine also has their own e-commerce sites as well. Now with the internet being such a resource for discovering trends all around the world, we thought it would be interesting to take a look at the different trends from a global standpoint. A Vogue global standpoint.
Considering there are 18 different countries to look at, we decided to just focus (for this particular post) on the top 3 countries with cities that are rated as “fashion capitals”. Vogue US - for New York, Vogue Paris - Paris, and Vogue Italia - Milan. These three countries have all been ranked at one time or another the Fashion Capital of the World.
The way we looked at Summer 2015 trends from a Global Garbs perspective was to narrow the trends down to the top 5 different from country to country. There were some obvious trends that Vogue highlighted in each country such as Denim (boring), or Lace (been there done that). So we decided to focus on the top 5 from each country that we felt were the most unique from each country.
Both Italy and Paris have always seemed to be a step ahead of the US in terms of actually adopting trends. Although Vogue USA may be showing some of the same trends as the European editions, the reality is that there are only a few parts of the country specifically in the USA that will adopt these trends for the current season. The trickle down effect will eventually happen, but in the early stages of a trend it could take a while until the average person is seen walking down the street…
Starting with Vogue USA…
The top 5 (different) trends for the season are Gingham, Fringe, New Festival, Flower Power, and Evening Midriff. We have obviously seen all of these trends before, but each season there is always a bit of a modern twist. For example, flower power is a combination of the floral trend combined with a seventies appeal. The 70’s have been seen all over the runway, but this summer trend focuses down to a specific seventies trend, which are large flowers or “flower power”.

#2 FRINGE
# 3 NEW FESTIVAL
# 4 FLOWER POWER
#5 EVENING MIDRIFF
Onto Vogue Italia…
Italians have always been known to have an amazing sense of style. Long before the internet, you could order an Italian Vogue via subscription but it would cost about $10 an issue to be delivered to the US. Here are the top 5 (different) trends from Italian Vogue: 70’s style, Marsala, Pockets, Light Blue, and White. It’s interesting that out of the top trends, Emmanuelle Alt chose 3 different colors as an actual trend.
# 1 70’s STYLE
#2 MARSALA
#3 POCKETS
#4 LIGHT BLUE
#5 WHITE
And finally..Vogue Paris
Paris, France in our eyes will always remain the fashion capital of the world. Being that they are the originator of haute couture, there really is no competing with the historical impact that France has had on the world of fashion. Many designers all around the world still find inspiration from the Paris couture shows, so it would make sense that the rest of the world would find inspiration from a french magazine. Here are the top 5 trends from the original fashion capital of the world.

# 2 POP ART

EAST COAST VS WEST COAST STYLE - NYC vs LA
When it comes to the East Coast vs West Coast fashion, there’s always been this unsaid stigma of who has a better sense of style. Although both the east coast and west coast are so large, we are going to focus on two cities that are often compared to each other…New York City vs Los Angeles.
New York City has always been known as the fashion capital of the world, but Los Angeles has been on the radar for quite some time. The city was even ranked no 4 according to the Language Monitor, who puts out a ranking each year of the top fashion capitals of the world. Yes, the city of Angels has slowly but surely made a name for itself in the fashion industry. From top fashion bloggers such as Aimee Song from Song of Style or Emily Schuman from Cupcakes and Cashmere , Los Angeles’ sense of style has always been casual yet chic, and of course never with the necessity of a heavy coat.
We did a piece a few months ago on the differences in East Coast vs West Coast spring style, because obviously weather makes a huge impact of what styles are trending from coast to coast. Now that it’s officially summer time, we thought we’d take another look at what’s going on in LA vs NY.
LOS ANGELES
Jenny Tsang from Tsangtastic who is prominently featured on Lookbook as one of the top bloggers on their leader board is a Los Angeles based fashion blogger with a large following both on lookbook and instagram. With almost 50k followers she’s slowly climbing the ranks as one of the top fashion bloggers from the west coast. Her style is simple yet sophisticated. Her taste is modern with a neutral color palate, while also throwing in a pop of cobalt blue or yellow here and there. She seems to gravitate more towards pastels and whites, especially based on her overall instagram gallery.
She’s definitely got the whole “less is more” thing going for her. All of her outfits look effortlessly chic yet comfortable. She has a relate-able style that will never make someone wonder “what was she thinking?”.
NEW YORK, NY
Rachel Lynch from I Hate Blonde‘s style is basically on the complete opposite end of the style spectrum compared to Tsangtastic. The main visual difference is that Rachel features more editorial type photos which are styled and shot in a much more conceptualized way as opposed to Tsang’s street style images. Lynch’s style is on the edgier side, with her combat platforms and lace, or pleated skirts with moto jackets. The two blogger’s different styles illustrate the statement “to each his own”.
One cannot say there is a clear winner in terms of style, which would always be a considered completely objective. The overall take away from observing the top two fashion bloggers on the Lookbook platform is that there could easily be someone located in NYC that dresses similar to Jenny Tsang, and there are many women who would relate more towards Rachel Lynch’s style as well.
These two style blogger’s comparison can be seen as the somewhat stereotypical view of what New Yorkers wear vs Angelenos. The vast majority of people associate NYC as being edgier, while Los Angeles is often viewed upon as more relaxed and casual. Either way, these two both know who they are as personal style mavens.
In today’s world of style there are no boundaries. Everyone is connected, emulated and admired.
