FLARES ARE BACK?!
HOW TO WEAR WITHOUT LOOKING LIKE YOU’RE FROM 2005
Let’s face it. Trends are just basically recycled every ten years give or take, so it’s no surprise that the flare jean is back in style. These pants were the pants to wear back in the early 2000’s. You wouldn’t be caught dead wearing a skinny pant in 2002.
For the past ten years, the skinny pant has been all the rage. But now with more and more magazines, blogs, and fashionistas wearing the flare again, it looks like they are back in a very big way.
The main thing to remember however, is to wear them like you are in 2015, and not 2005. Although many of us will want to keep our clothing for more than a decade in hopes that the trend will soon be back in style, it’s pretty much pointless. Reason being that although flares are back, they are definitely not the same silhouette worn ten years ago.
Here are the three differentiating style factors of flare jeans now vs ten years ago. Hint: It’s all about the styling and rise. 😉
High Rise:
Who can forget the Britney and Christina days of low-rise flare jeans and chunky belts? Back in the day, the lower the waist line the better. These days, the high waisted rise is the way to go. No more ass crack showing people.
Sleek and Chic:
One of our favorite bloggers Tracy Tsang shows off her sleek all black look with a slightly flared jeans. The flare itself doesn’t need to be a bell bottom to achieve a more modern look, but her whole ensemble is perfection from top to bottom.
Tuck it in:
Back in the early 2000’s we wouldn’t dare tuck our shirts in. We preferred blouse-y camisoles, wife beaters, or halters. Or remember those pointer hankerchief type (barf). These girls have got the look down. Sophisticated and classy, they’ve tucked their shirts into their high-rise flares for a modern and more 70’s vibe.
Add a layer:
Again the styling is key when wearing high rise flares. This fashionista definitely ups her game by adding this faux fur vest to her 70’s inspired ensemble. So chic.
HOW TO WEAR A TURTLENECK WITHOUT LOOKING LIKE A 90’S GIRL.
You can say that the turtleneck used to have a bad rap for being considered a bit “old lady” back in the day. Being classified as “librarian” or “conservative”, this classic item has recently made a big comeback and we are seeing this piece worn by style bloggers all over the world.
The way it’s being worn is the differentiating factor of the way it was worn in say the nineties. The main thing to remember is to focus on your silhouette. You don’t want to look like you stepped out of a Gap advertisement from 1992. It’s now all about form fitting or super relaxed..nothing in between.
Whether you opt for a full on turtleneck, a mock version, sleeveless or long sleeved, this item is a must have for this fall and can definitely transition into the colder weather. The fall is all about layering and a turtleneck is the perfect option for an ultra chic look. Here are 8 ways to style your turtleneck from Germany to Spain..
#1 PAIRED WITH A TRENCH VEST…
CZECH REPUBLIC: Jana Dishani from Prague shows off her three piece ensemble pairing her classic black turtleneck with a long trench vest. The vest definitely adds the right amount of extra style to her outfit, but her turtleneck is perfect for fall and the cooler months as opposed to wearing a camisole or collared blouse.
#2 PAIRED WITH HIGH RISE SKINNIES…
UNITED KINGDOM: Anoushka P from the UK pairs her classic turtleneck with some high rise skinny jeans for a simple yet chic look. By sticking to the basics, down to her booties, belt and wide brim floppy, her look is both classic yet updated. She’s taken a modern approach to the simple pairings of staple items in your wardrobe.
#3 WORN AS A CROP TOP…
UNITED STATES: Ruby Park from The Ruby Element shows off one sexy way to wear a turtleneck. Whoever thought that turtlenecks are only considered conservative needs to see this amazing outfit. Ruby knows how to work some curves and show off her teeny waist with her cropped turtleneck and body con pencil skirt.
#4 PAIRED WITH A REGULAR SKIRT…
UNITED STATES: Zia Domic of The Hunter Collector also from Los Angeles shows off a more conservative way to pair a turtleneck with a regular skirt. Her matching accessories are both eye catching and totally on trend to bring the whole look together. Complete with her short sleeve trench coat and she has the perfect fall look goin’ on for the warmer autumn months of Cali.
#5 PAIRED WITH A JUMPER…
SPAIN: Trini Gonzalez a stylist and blogger from Trini-G is wearing her turtleneck with none other than an adorable jumper! Perfectly styled with some penny loafers and messenger bag, Trini’s look is feminine and right on trend for modernizing the classic turtleneck.

GERMANY: Lotta Liina from Lotta Liina Love in Munich pairs her much more relaxed turtleneck with all white. Another big trend overall is the monochrome look whether it be wearing all white or all black, this model/film student has got the look perfected down to her pumps.

UNITED STATES: Katerina of the beautymarklady a Russian girl living in New York, shows off her simple yet vibrant outfit with bright red colorblocked turtleneck and charcoal trousers. Her look is eye-catching yet simple and she dresses her look up nicely with some round toed chunky heels..another perfect trend for the fall.
#8 PAIRED WITH SOME WIDE LEGGED PANTS
GERMANY: Caro Daur a blogger from Hamburg, of Carodaur looks ultra sophisticated with her cropped wide legged culottes and sheer ribbed turtleneck. It’s the perfect pairing for a modern fall ensemble that anyone can pull off.
CALIFORNIA STYLE: SO-CAL VS NOR-CAL
Everyone knows that California style is synonymous with the whole relaxed, laid back and comfy look. Or they can usually be identified by their much more glamorous ensembles compared to the rest of the United States. But what about the whole Northern California vs Southern California debate.
Being that Southern California is pretty much full of actors and actresses, you would think that they would take the cake when it comes to street style among fashion bloggers. And yes, there are some of the biggest names in blogging (Aimee Song’s and Sincerely Jules, among many many others), but Nor cal girls are definitely giving So cal girls a run for their money.
Check out these five fabulous ladies from both NorCal and SoCal. Can you spot the differences? The main thing they all have in common however is that they are all absolutely stunning! Can we say hello, models?

How to Wear a Hat for Fall
Wearing a hat can either be incredibly chic and the perfect fall accessory, or you can feel quite ridiculous. Many girls always say “I’m just not a hat person” , but that is like saying you’re not a an earring person, or a belt person. A hat can be the best way to give your outfit just a little extra style. Many bloggers around the world have been embracing all shapes and colors of hats for a while now, and the looks below do not disappoint.

TOP 13 STREET STYLE LOOKS FROM NEW YORK FASHION WEEK
It’s that time of year again..New York Fashion Week! Scouring the street style blogs we have put together our top 13, not 10 or 12, but lucky 13 looks from Day 1 of NYFW.
Street style has become such a huge part of Fashion Week that these stylish ladies and street style photographers have almost become the new runway on it’s own. With more wearable outfits worn on the street, many “normal” people look to these style mavens for inspiration on how to style their own wardrobes rather than referring to the real runway. Yes the runway is an amazing experience and you ultimately cannot compare the two, but fashion week has definitely evolved into something more than just viewing the shows.
It’s interesting to observe what all of the other huge websites who are “curating” their idea of what represents the best street style. Some photos are a bit crazy. Yes there are those creative individuals who can wear some unique pieces of clothing that make you stop and stare, but to the average Joe or should we say average Jane, they may look a bit silly. Of course as fashion folk and creatives we can either be inspired by these looks, taken aback, or feel completely indifferent.
Whatever the look, these 13 street style stars are what we would consider to be the “top” in our eyes of some serious yet wearable style.
9 BLOGGERS WHO WORE BLACK BEST THIS WEEK
Wearing all black can sometimes be perceived as looking dark, gothic, or just depressing. Being a New Yorker however, you get used to wearing the color because it’s not only the easiest color to wear, but it can be pretty versatile with any aspect of your wardrobe.
Wearing all black is almost a statement in itself. When you wear all black you instantly feel slimmer and more sophisticated. The simplest of outfits automatically feels a bit more “dressy”. Although summer doesn’t officially end until September 23rd, the fact that it is now September 1st makes us excited that the Fall season is just around the corner.
