9 Ways to Wear a Midi Skirt

The midi skirt trend has been seen a ton recently whether it's the latest featured trend on a big glossy or the an "it girl" blogger.

And although this trend has been around for a while, many haven't chosen to embrace it as much as it should be because they can't exactly figure out how to wear.

Whether you are more of the casual or sporty girl, or looking for a different type of "going out" look, here are our top 10 ways we've spotted around the globe on how to pull of this trending item.

CONTRAST YOUR PIECES
Here's a perfect way of balancing an otherwise somewhat preppy pleated midi skirt with some toughness. We love the balanced outfit German blogger Esra has put together with the contrast of the striped sweater and bomber jacket paired with ankle boots and army cap.

POP OF COLOR
This outfit is the perfect day to night look. Whether you wear to the office and then drinks afterward, or on a special occasion, we love the pop of color paired with pumps and a sweater. Stylish, elegant and classy are the words that come to mind when describing this look.

SPORTY MEETS FEMININE
In Hong Kong, the midi skirt worn here by blogger Mayo shows off a feminine yet sporty way of styling the midi. We especially love that she added a bowler hat to the ensemble and kept her accessories muted and pastel to match her skirt.

SIMPLE COOL
Jessica is wearing the epitome of a cool girl outfit.  Her midi paired with opaque tights, ankle boots and motorcycle jacket are just the right amount of simple yet incredibly cool.

BASIC CHIC
Rebeca from Valencia, Spain shows off a super chic outfit in basic colors. Although each piece is extremely simple and easy to wear, Rebecca pulls off this look with such ease and chicness we definitely need to copy asap.

PERFECT PRINT
One of our favorite bloggers, Viktoriya from Istanbul, always wears the best prints. And this abstract midi skirt does not disappoint.  She's perfectly styled with her nude heels, handbag and denim blouse.

NEXT LEVEL ACCESSORY
Not only do we love the skirt and classic white shirt combo, but Ash a designer and stylist from Los Angeles, CA can definitely rock a heel. Check out the peep toe lace ups she's sporting with her semi pleated midi.

ALL BLACK SEXY
Here's a great way of dressing up your midi, worn by student and blogger Holynights from Portugal. By wearing all black, it almost gives the impression that she's wearing a one piece dress. Two outfits in one!

BASIC CHIC 2
We probably seen this trend worn the most in most simple and stylish way, just like Emily from New York, NY shows us.  Her simple ribbed knit, straight midi and cute booties accompanied with floppy brim hat is just the easiest and coolest look.

Here are some of our favorites from every price point imaginable. Happy Shopping!

MARIA ROGET BIO .jpg

Hey! My name is Maria Marques, I'm a 26yrs Portuguese girl who's a museum curator, freelancer artist and fashion blogger. The main focus of my blog is to show, besides my travels and fashion tips, how someone can be stylish and trendy with basics and simple outfits. But always giving that personal and edgy touch to it. Keeping it casual, chic and simple is the way to go!

3 TIPS FOR NEW BLOGGERS

1. Do no copy! Get inspired, take notes but never copy!
2. Know yourself, know your style and taste, and stick to it.
3. Keep it simple!

MANIC MONDAY

DAY 1 – MANIC MONDAY
One of my go-to outfits are those outfits that I instantly pick without even thinking. It includes jeans, leather jacket, black tops, flats shoes or sneakers. In this case, sneakers. This an outfit I would wear to do my errands or even to travel! Comfy and chic.

TRENDY TUESDAY- MARIA ROGET

DAY 2 – TRENDY TUESDAY
The shearling coat! I've been mad about it since the cold weather came. And for me it is one of the top trends this F/W season. Super warm, an edgy piece that goes perfect with jeans and black knits. I've combined mine with a black man knit, grey jeans and black loafers.

WORK IT WEDNESDAY - MARIE - PORTUGAL

DAY 3 – WORK IT WEDNESDAY
Since I'm obsessed with basics and man wear, if I had to go to the museum or a job interview I would most definitely wear a grey sweater and jeans. But, to jazz it up a bit, I would add a pair of black heels and a furry collar leather jacket. Simple and classic!

DAY 4 – TBT
I've started blogging in the Summer of 2013. But slowed it along the way and kicked it again in October of 2014. This is an outfit from November of 2014, with one of my favorites back then, the varsity jacket, and my ginger hair!

fancy friday

DAY 5 – FANCY FRIDAY
Another trend of 2015 are the flare jeans. A fancy piece that reborn is style! This outfit could as easily be worn to work (adding the jacquard coat), and to a night out with with just the turtleneck, jeans and adding a small black purse.

swanky saturday

DAY 6 – SWANKY SATURDAY
I rarely go out, but when I do I like to play with my silhouette. And what works perfect with it is the always classic black dress and black heels. And I've been loving the midi dresses this year. So, this would be an outfit I would wear to go out dinner with my man.

spontaneous sundays

DAY 7 – SPONTANEOUS SUNDAY
unday are all about staying comfy! And for me there's nothing more comfortable than man knits. I could live in them! This outfit shows my “weekend look” in the best way possible: big knit, black pants and black flats. Perfect for a stroll in the city.

Han Chong's Stunning Self Portrait

With a fine attention to detail and a technically proficient hand akin to those seen at the most luxurious high-end brands, one contemporary label is popping up on everyone’s radar.

Self-Portrait, established in 2013, is the brainchild of Malaysian designer Han Chong, formerly of Three Floor. The London-based company, already picked up by high-end retailers Bergdorf Goodman and Net-A-Porter, offers delicate and feminine designs at a beyond-fair price-point, with dresses currently ranging between $500-$600. Marking extra-special designs at especially affordable prices is just one of the many ways Self-Portrait stands out.

Mixing high-street with high-end, the designs of Self-Portrait are created with fabrics sourced mostly from Japan and South Korea, and boast intricate details using embroidered lace and sheer overlays. Heavily influenced by his aunt, a local artist in Malaysia, Chong was drawn to the creativity expressed in her paintings as a child, and the strong impression led him to attend art school before going on to study fashion at Central Saint Martins.

Take a look at any Self-Portrait collection and the influence of a once curious and artistic child is apparent immediately. Beautiful and thought-provoking, the clean lines play with ornate detail, resulting in looks that somehow make modern feel familiar, inviting the wearer to be the woman we all observe and admire from afar with an almost childlike wonder. There’s no mistaking the fact that this designer is a true visual artist, first and foremost.

The name Self-Portrait is a nod to the representation of the individual, a common occurrence found throughout art history, from the classics, to the current trend of “selfies” so prominent on social media today.

The celebration of the individual is exactly where Chong is at in this moment of his career. Opting to leave his partnership with Three Floor to branch out on his own, allowing him 100% creative control, the gamble is paying off, and with Self-Portrait’s Spring/Summer 2015 line boasting an impressive sell-through rate of 92%, there is definitely occasion to celebrate.

A consistent top-seller at Selfridges, Chong is definitely doing something right with his creation. The A-list favorite has been seen on both the red carpet, and out in the streets of New York on none other than the Queen Bee herself.

With a small team working between London and Hong Kong, Chong is building his company one collection at a time. Looking at expanding his growing operation unto U.S. markets is his top priority, however, he plans to develop slowly, keeping true to the ideals that have allowed him to stay true to his designs thus far. “I want to grow the brand as organically as possible. It’s easy to get carried away,” the artist recently stated in an interview with Business of Fashion.

7 Days of Style - Belgium

In a new weekly series, we are going to be highlighting a new up and coming blogger from around the world in our "7 Days of Style" series.

There are SO many fashion bloggers all over the world now that there really is no shortage of style inspiration. And what better way to be inspired than to see what's going on all over the world.

That's really where the Global Garbs idea came from in the first place.

We couldn't help but realize that the world is slowly becoming much more in tune with how others around the world are dressing.

It used to be that stylists, fashion editors and of course magazines were our only way of seeing what's going on trend wise overall, but now with the internet and the emergence of fashion bloggers, we can easily scroll through Instagram or subscribe to our favorite bloggers to get Outfit of the Day Inspiration from around the world.

To start the series off we reached out to Salome Malou from Belgium.  Here's a little bio about our fashionista of the week:

"I’m a Belgian fashion obsessed stylist, working in a family business with 5 siblings. We have launched a new clothing brand called Elpidea one year and half ago based on the experience of our parents’ 28 years of work in fashion.  I’ve always been crazy about fashion and I really believe that the way you dress has an impact on your life. As a child, I learned to care about my appearance, not as something vain and superficial but as a way to express who I am, in a beautiful form of art."

DAY 1 - Manic Monday
Mondays can usually be a bit rushed and frazzled from either a long weekend, or just trying to get back into the work week groove.  Everyone needs an outfit they can throw together, so here is Salome's idea of what is both stylish, comfortable and easy to wear.
"A classy blanket coat thrown over a long sleeved white tee and a pair of well fitted black pants is a look that is both so easy to pull together and comfy.  A few accessories like a statement necklace and a hat just add the sophisticated touch it needs."

DAY 2 – TRENDY TUESDAY
Trendy Tuesday is all about what you feel is going on trend wise for the season. Every season there are definitely some "must have" items, so here's your chance to show off your absolute favorite.

"I think the A-line skirt is the star of the season. It’s no wonder that we find it everywhere. In a cut that is flattering for many shapes, it surfs on the 90’s trend come back. Although you may find it in many different kinds of fabric (corduroy, thick cotton, etc…) My favorite is the classic suede one (Or a faux-suede is a little more practical as you can wash it!). "
